Vinyl fences are popular amongst homeowners for the stylish look they can add to a house and also because they do not have the high maintenance of wood.  However these vinyl fences can become dirty from mold and mildew over time and really take away from the look.

Here is a link to a vinyl fence manufacturer that shows their recommended care and maintenance for vinyl fencing.

Clean vinyl fence using pump sprayer:

  1. * Fill up sprayer with water, add 6 ounces of bleach per gallon (20:1 mixture), and add 1/3 cup of Tide.
  2. Apply solution and let sit for about 15 minutes.
  3. Rinse down fence with water.
  4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 until clean.

Clean vinyl fence using pressure washer:

Note: You will need a down stream injector for this.

  1. * Fill 5 gallon bucket with 3 gallons water, 2 gallons bleach, and 4 ounces of a surfactant or 1 2/3 cups of Tide. Place injector hose into bucket.
  2. Apply solution using pressure washer and let sit for approximately 15 minutes.
  3. Rinse fence using low pressure tip.
  4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 until clean.

  • Note: Due to the variations of bleach quality and age, these mixtures should be used as a starting point and then tested in a small area before cleaning entire fence. Your solution should take about 10 to 15 minutes to work.  If it is not taking at least 10 minutes to clean, then your mixture is too strong and can be diluted more.  If your solution takes more that 15 minutes then you may increase the mixture a little at a time. It would be best to start with new bleach as bleach loses its effectiveness over time.
